In the beginning there was Matchbox Interiors...
Or was there?
This is the very start of the story of Matchbox Interiors. Don't worry, there's no sob stories like an X Factor contestant.
I established Matchbox Interiors in January 2019 as a way of making my passion for interior design more than just a hobby and an excuse to buy things for my flat. I wanted to use the skill and eye that I have for interiors to build a business that I can run and manage on my own. I always remind myself that we're going to be working for a very long time (retirement is a long, long way off), so now is the right time to create a business that I'm excited about.
What's my experience I hear you ask? I've worked in PR for a number of years with one of my clients being a big furniture retailer (I won't name names). I was designing and styling spaces for events and shoots but having to let an official interiors person take the credit. Or I was often thinking I could be doing a better job if it was left in my hands. But, that could have been down to the fact that naturally I prefer my style to theirs!
2019 is the year of positive change for me, and Matchbox Interiors has been the major step. I signed up to an Interior Design Business Course run by the amazing Jo Chrobak. She's been holding my hand each step of the way (what a legend) and has taught me so much.
What have I learnt so far? That setting up a business isn't as easy as I'd thought it would be. But hey, I'm enjoying each moment, step and stumble.
This is the first of (hopefully) many blog posts to come, they'll cover trends I've spotted, tips and tricks, favourite picks from ranges and updates on Matchbox Interiors. Do get in touch if there's anything you'd like me to cover.
